Honeymoon in Ireland: Dublin

We spent the first day of our honeymoon in Dublin.  After nearly twelve hours of traveling, we arrived in Baile Atha Cliath, which is Irish for Dublin City (and yes, they call it Irish, not Gaelic, which is a history in its own...), exhausted but ready for our adventure to begin.

We used airbnb for much of our trip, including our first stay in Dublin, and truly, we could not have been happier with that experience.  The accommodations were perfect every time: comfortable, clean, welcoming, great food, and we adored our hosts.  I can't emphasize that last part enough.  Staying with locals made our trip incredibly rich, from learning about the history and current affairs of the country, to getting tips on great places to explore, to just feeling a deeper connection to the places we visited and the people of Ireland.

After meeting our host, settling in, and taking long, hot, much-needed showers, we were ready to see the city we had waited so long to step foot in!

It was technically early morning back at home, but we decided to start our Irish travels with a pub lunch, Irish beer included!  This one's actually a Smithwick's.
A walk around Trinity College...

We got caught in a complete downpour at the end of this first day, and I admittedly did not have a raincoat, or even a coat at all!  We waited ages for the bus, almost caught one (only to have the driver shake his head at me through the closed glass doors), and then walked a few blocks back to the place we were staying after getting off the bus.  Needless to say, we were drenched to the bone, and happy to spend the rest of the evening in warm sweatpants, sipping tea and eating biscuits, while sharing laughs and stories with our friendly hosts.  Not a bad ending to a soggy first day of our honeymoon.
