Weekend Adventures, Rain and the Headless Horseman

Two of my besties came to visit over the weekend!  We lounged around in the living room, we played Lego Indiana Jones on the XBox, we bought a chicken suit, a globe and tried on winter hats at Target, we sipped Starbucks mochas, we made not one, but two trips to Sleepy Hollow, we drank wine and played The Office board game, and we shared stories of work and college.  What a weekend.  Now I think it's time for a nap.

A chill in the air

It's been a seriously blustery day in this little Hudson Valley town, making for a perfectly spooky night. As I was making dinner tonight, into my head popped Hocus Pocus!, obviously a Halloween CLASSIC. After searching far and wide for a copy of the movie a couple falls ago, I finally found a beat up VHS copy at the local Goodwill...for a dollar! (Where, ironically enough, we just donated the tape back to, now that we don't have a VCR). So, I watched Hocus Pocus that Halloween, much to Anthony's skepticism, and while I still got a few laughs out of it, I will admit that it didn't seem quite as fabulous as it did when Encole and I watched it every fall as kids (and teenagers...). Nonetheless, it's still a sort of comfort movie (I love those outdoor Massachusetts autumn scenes) and I always get the urge to watch it again every Halloween, especially these days when I'm too old to go trick-or-treating, and am instead forced to hang out and either watch disgusting, gory movies or nothing at all. Thus the story of my Halloween season guilty pleasure. I wonder where I can get a cheap copy on DVD this year?

very cool Hocus Pocus art from here.
