National Vanilla Cupcake Day

I swear.  I heard it on the Today Show this morning, and later confirmed it by googling, which brought me to this and this.

Obviously, there's also a National Cupcake Day (much more inclusive), which happens to be December 15th, AND a National Chocolate Cupcake Day, which we just missed by a few weeks (it was October 18th).  I've also learned that my birthday is National Ice Cream and Violins Day.  Interesting combo, but I'll take it.  Wouldn't it be interesting to try to eat, cook or bake something new every day based on this list of food holidays?  It's like another version of Julie and Julia...kind of tempting.  Maybe I'll just start slow: cupcakes today, guacamole on Saturday.  I can handle that.

My celebratory vanilla cupcakes, pulled out of the oven just moments ago and waiting to be frosted!  I wanted to try out the Magnolia recipe for 'vanilla vanilla' cupcakes, but alas, I didn't have any self-rising flour in the cupboards, so instead I went with Amy Sedaris' vanilla cupcakes: recipe here.  I'll let you know the results of the taste test tomorrow :)
